Working with Professor Gerard Egan

Our approach draws on the work of Professor Gerard Egan, who we have worked closely with for many years.

Professor Egan has developed four leadership and organisational change models, which we have translated into a series of practical models, tools and techniques that underpin CEL's work.

Who is Gerard Egan?

Gerard Egan is Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Organization Development at Loyola University, Chicago.

Counselling

He has written more than 15 books. His books in the field of counselling and communication include:

  • The Skilled Helper: A Problem-Management and Opportunity-Development Approach to Helping
  • Interpersonal Living: Skills/Contract Approach to Human Relations Training in Groups

Change models

Through his writings, complemented by extensive consulting, Professor Egan created a comprehensive four-model management and consulting system, known simply as Models A, B, C and D.

Model A
focuses on strategy, operations, structure, human resource management, the managerial role itself, and results-focused leadership.
Model B:
provides a framework for managing innovation and change.
Model C:
deals with the kind of communication and relationship building skills managers and change agents need.
Model D:
based on Working the Shadow Side, this model provides a framework for managing such shadow side complexities as organisational messiness, personalities, social systems, politics and culture.
